We Have Become Strangers

Updated: Mar 23, 2021

We Have Become Strangers is a fan film based in the Destiny universe created by the software developer Bungie. Destiny is a first-person-shooter that allows the player to build their own hero and take them on adventures throughout the galaxy fighting space aliens. While traveling through the universe the player finds stories and folklore on the weapons and armor, giving them insights into the origins and histories of the objects within the game. Some of these descriptions build compelling narratives that are quite cinematic and worthy of recognition. "I have been wanting to tell the Stranger's story since she handed me her rifle in Destiny 1 (2015). I had many of the events and incidents planned out, only after the Warmind expansion (2018) was I able to give names and define motivations to the characters. It was then the script took shape." - Kevin Ivers Pre Production began Jan 2020 with the building of the Eon Trespass model. We kept a steady pace with plans to shoot in the spring of 2020. Later the shoot would be pushed to late summer due to the Covid-19 outbreaks in the county. With the announcement of the Beyond Light expansion in June of that year, it looked like many of the themes and plot points planned for Become Strangers were about to be nullified. It then became a race to try to put out the first part of the script before the expansion release in November. Production started August 2020 during a lull in area Covid case numbers. The goal was to shoot and edit for a release by late September (Two months). We shot over two days one week apart. The set was built a week prior to the shoot in a storage space in a local church that was once a grocery store. The shoot went smoothly with no incidents and both shoots running late into the evening. It was an incredible effort and for many of the actors and crew it was their first time on a movie set. With the shooting completed, all the live action stuff was a success. Next the miniatures had to be shot. Some even had yet to be built.

Post production -in process. Post Update 1.9.21 We have gathered a cast of voice actors to perform a Spanish language dub for the short. Diana Roys, who plays Maya Sundaresh in the short, has been instrumental in making this idea a reality. We have her to thank for our great strides towards being internationally accessible. We are incredibly excited to have this opportunity and look forward to the possibility of reaching a broader scope of the Destiny fanbase.

Post Update 1.14.21 IDM/Electronic music artist KODOMO has agreed to work on the soundtrack. This is another big step for this project. We are so excited to have him as part of the production. Update 3.23.21 Trailer #2 is ready to drop. We are excited to be partnering with Destiny News Hub to make that happen. Look for that on social media in the next week or so. You can also look forward to the Spanish speaking version of the trailer to be available soon. We are finalizing graphics and we have a last minute FX shot we are adding to the short. Getting practical takes preparation and good weather. So once the skies clear we can get that shot. Then the short can be called done, done. Here's a sneak peak of the rig we will be using for this FX shot.

We estimate for a release of Part 1 in April. Yellow Brick FX hopes to launch a crowd funding campaign to coincide with the release to raise the money to complete the rest of the short, Part 2.
